Your Wi-Fi router needs to be set up with WPA/WPA2 wireless security and with any client/access point/wireless isolation/security feature turned off. In addition you need to disable private address mode for your iPhone on this network. See Use private Wi-Fi addresses on iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Apple Watch - Apple Support.

Occasionally automatic router updates have been known to enable the wireless security features I referred to earlier. You might double check your router's settings just to confirm nothing there is contributing to the problem. Likewise Apple's troubleshooting usually involves updating to the latest version of iOS and perhaps resetting your network settings, so worth checking for certain that private Wi-Fi addressing (the default option) hasn't somehow become enabled. You need to have Bluetooth enabled to set up HomePod. When you try to follow the steps in Set up and use HomePod mini and HomePod - Apple Support or the Press top of HomePod to reset it steps from Reset HomePod - Apple Support where do you get stuck, and are there any error messages?

I took it to the Apple store and they were able to reset it and we got it to join the Apple store wifi. the problem became that now it is set to the Apple store wifi, they didn't reset the rest and put it in pairing mode, they were too busy trying to figure out who was going to lunch. S

So I am unable to reset it now. I was on the phone with Apple support for about an hour and she finally figured out what the Apple store did and didn't do. I have to make another trip to that store to get it fixed again, hopefully.

I did double-check the router settings and everything is the way it is supposed to be.

I appreciate the ideas.
