Smart HDR on iPhone 13 pro max

There is no way to switch off “Smart HDR” on iPhone 13 pro?!?

The pictures look worse then on my old Samsung. Totally unnatural and oversharpened.

I talked to several guys in three different apple stores in NYC and they even didn’t know about smart HDR or wondered that it wasn’t in the camera preferences anymore.

Apple must change that HDR issue asap with an iOS update. The only reason I bought the iPhone was for the camera.

Using apple since 1992.

Hi ThoScho1,

By default, iPhone takes photos in HDR (for the rear camera and the front camera) when it’s most effective. iPhone 12 models and iPhone 13 models record video in HDR to capture true-to-life color and contrast.
You can turn off HDR recording from Settings  > Camera > Record Video, then turn off HDR Video.

You can find more details on Adjust HDR camera settings on iPhone.

Provide feedback to Apple on Product Feedback page.

Regards.

Hey there Thomas,

While there isn't a way to turn off Smart HDR on your specific iPhone, there is an option to change the Photographic Style : Apply Photographic Styles. We're sharing this guide so you know about the feature and so can make any adjustments to see if this works for you.

We do agree with the suggestion for leaving feedback to Apple: Product Feedback. This would be the best way for your voice to be heard about the change.

Kind regards.

Hi Less,

yes, on iPhone 12 and down it’s possible to switch HDR off, but not on iPhone 13 and 13 Pro.

What is that?

That MUST be a fix asap for the next firmware update. Like I said, pictures look horrible and unusable for professional purposes. My clients will not accept the “HDR look”.

Absolutely not your fault Less, but please give the feedback to the engineers!

Regards,

Thomas
