I can't remember my Mac password

I changed my Mac password in January, which I don't remember doing. Is there any way of retrieving it without wiping my Mac clean?

To summarize, when a person can't remember a password, they have to go to the Apple site and create a new one. An old password may not be recovered. Nor can we reuse an old one.
