Does Final Cut Pro require a scratch disk?

My current setup is a MacBook Pro (SSD). Am I correct assuming the need for a scratch disk for renders, processing, etc.?

Internal disk as a scratch disk for raw photo editing? Hello friends, System: Mac Mini M1 SSD 1TB / 16GB Ram. I am thinking of using my internal disk as a scratch disk for raw photo editing with various applications (Capture One, Affintiy Photo, DxO Photolab 4). I think about by the end of projects to archive them in an OWC Thunderbay 4 unit + additional external backup. The internal disk is much faster than the SATA HDDs I have inside the Thunderbay 4 even with Thunderbolt 3. Doubts: 1. Is it a good idea to use the operating system disk as a scratch disk for the one I describe? 2. Can it lead to premature wear and tear of the internal disk and then compromise the operating system and require a repair that I foresee on this new Mac M1 is not simple, is not cheap and can not be solved at home as in the past? 3. If it's a good idea to use this disk as a scratch disk, should I separate the operating system on one volume and the rest of the disk space on another volume? 4. Can this allow me to re-install macOS if necessary, without touching the other volume dedicated for photo editing work, on the same disc? 5. Lastly; if this SDD is in APFS format, is it better to use Volumes or Partitions? I look forward to your help; always excellent in this forum, to be able to make the best decision. SSD's and video editing (FCP X) re: Final Cut Pro X on a Macbook Air M1 and/or M2: Building a small, little system -- Any recommendations for SSD's as scatch discs for 4K video editing? Looking at Crucial X6 4TB Portable SSD – Up to 800MB/s – USB 3.2 as a candidate for outboard video-clip drive(s). I understand this particular drive is great for simple file transfer and video storage but I need to know if these latter day SSD's are capable of on-line, non-linear, up to 4K, with, very little rendering, non-commercial editing projects? Not much in visual effects/graphics... straight forward interview audio (no effects). Shorthand? Nothing special... Being away from the game for nearly 10 years is really showing... Ouch! can you create a macbook air m2 disk image I'm a new Mac user/owner. Is there a way to make a disk image of the Macbook Air M2 onto a SSD external drive?

Renders and optimized and proxies are stored with the media. That can be either inside the library bundle or in an assigned location like a folder. Other generated files are stored in cache, again either in the library or an assigned location. There is no assigned application storage. Everything is stored on a library by library basis.

No, you do not need any additional drives unless you find it more convenient.

Everything can be done on your MBP.
