IPhone 13 Pro wi-fi problems with Viasat

I am rural with satellite isp’s as the only currently available options. Until I get Starlink, I have Viasat. My iphone 13 Pro will connect to the wi-fi router but I will get “No internet Connectivity” in orange script underneath my network’s name in Wi-Fi under Settings. Other devices, all Microsoft /Dell laptops and android phones connect just fine and have wi-fi. Spent hours with Apple on the phone doing all phone resets, router resets, no luck. They sent me to Best Buy for an appointment, the wi-fi worked fine there. They suggested calling Viasat as the problem is just with mine and wife’s iPhone 13 Pros. Viasat after an hour on the phone told me they have some internal documentation saying their security is not compatible with Apple’s demands. If true, at least I understand now. I have not seen this issue discussed anywhere else, has anyone else heard about this? Am wondering if the problem is that Viasat’s speeds/latency are too slow? Everyone that visits with an android device or pc/laptop has no problems connecting to our Viasat wi-fi. I am new to this so apologize in advance for anything stupid. Comments/help truly appreciated. Below is a screen shot of what my phone does when connected to the wi-fi router but gets no internet.

Check your WiFi Router / Modem for --> Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points ...

Connecting to Wifi is the first part and then getting connected to the Internet is the second

  1. If you connect to Wifi, doesn't necessarily mean you are connected to the internet. If you are not connected to wifi could be a problem with iPhone settings or Router/Modem Settings
  2. If you are not connected to the internet is the sole issue of Router / Modem Settings. Contact your ISP immediately

Hello friend,

Thank you for the response, I like knowing I'm not the only one with this problem. I'm curious, are you able to connect Apple devices to your Viasat wi-fi and get internet access? Or is the problem just with your wi-fi enabled heater? I'm trying to decide if perhaps I should try buying my own router and trying that. I spoke with a friend who until recently had Viasat (he now has Starlink) and he was able to use his iPhone with Viasat's wi-fi. But it was an older model iPhone 6, I think. So now I'm wondering if this is just a problem with newer Apple products.

I can connect all devices including iPhone (which is an iPhone 12) and iPad to wifi and have internet service even though the settings says there is no internet connection. Totally bizarre. I am curious about Starlink but the signup sheet on the website says it wont be available for additional users in my area until at least 2023.

I looked into getting my own modem/router for Viasat, but nothing is available. Apparently, Viasat only works through its proprietary modem. Viasat wont even exchange out my modem (which is rented through Viasat) for a new one so I could see if that was the problem. They require a service visit by a technician at $95 which is a real pain for me since it is at a second home making it hard to schedule the appointment.

By the way, I spent at least an hour with Apple support a couple of months back and we went through all kinds of setting changes, etc to try to resolve the message to no avail. I wonder if it has to do with the transmission lag time to the satellite.

I never thought I would wish Comcast was an option.

If I ever figure anything out, I will put it in a post.

Good luck.

Your experience is almost exactly the same as mine as far as time spent with Apple, etc. We did all kinds of resets. And thank you for your comments on the modem, I wondered if Viasat might require their own but wasn't sure and was waffling on whether or not to try buying one. You just answered that question for me. I am no tech expert but I think your comment about wondering if the lag time to the satellite might be the problem is correct. I say that because a friend of mine who is a networking specialist came over here (his Android phone connected just fine to the wi-fi) and he voiced the same question - he wondered if the lag time was the problem. He says the modem/router is allowing me to log on to it but then either my iPhone 13 or the router was not allowing me on to the internet. Since other android and microsoft devices can get internet he thought it was the iPhone 13 and that the satellite delay was making the iphone think that the internet wasn't there or wasn't secure. Your comment about being allowed internet access while it says you didn't have it under Settings has me curious. I'll have to go check and see if that is happening to me as well. Really do appreciate your comments.

I never thought I would wish for Spectrum! I am hoping to get Starlink any time now. Others I know who signed up when I did are now getting their equipment. I am in central Texas. Good luck and thanks again!
