MacBook Pro Display Issue After Apple MRT Update 1.93

Hi all!

Today my laptop screen got kinda broken right after plugging external HP Z27 display using USB-C (which I have been using for at least 3 years). And as I understand, the issue occurred at the same very moment with Apple MRT update to 1.93 which is impossible to roll back or delete.

System Configuration

  1. MacBook Pro13 8GB RAM/256 HDD (2016) without TouchID
  2. macOS Monterey 12.3.1

Issues with display:

  1. Has vertical line (white on dark background and blue on dark)
  2. Screen is blinking until it freezes
  3. Does not work as Main display

What works fine:

  1. Everything works fine except the display
  2. Screen mirroring to external display works fine (actually I use it to write this post)

What I tried

  1. Uninstalling software like Zoom, Telegram, Signal, Bluetooth services, etc.
  2. Resetting NVRAM and SMC

I am going to reinstall MacOS. But not sure if it will help with the issue.

Any idea?

Some photos of the issue are attached below.

Freezes like this

Then goes like this

I hardly see this as the cause, a coincidence maybe.. This update is nothing but simple .plist. You can read the content yourself. No coding in there to effect your screen...(?)

Finder>Go>Go To Folder copy and paste:

/Library/Apple/System/Library/CoreServices

then >open the XProtect.bundle >Content >Resources >XProtect.plist

This looks like a hardware issue—

Are you say after you unplug the peripheral your issue continues ...?

OK I see MacBookPro13,1 no touchbar

This Mac has a known issue with the projector cable—

VERTICAL artifacts are almost always a problem with the display itself: not the screen buffer, not display-generator, NOT CABLES.

The screen as we see it is a "stack" of horizontal slices of data. We only see perfect vertical lines when all the horizontal slices line up perfectly.

Nothing except the display hardware itself knows anything about "Vertical".

Insightful as always.
