I bought my iPhone this year and have never been connected to Wi-Fi so far, as I could live with Cellular Data. I was surprised to see that Apple allowing the IOS update using Cellular Data. Please check the attached screenshot. Is this an added feature or is it a bug on my phone?
I am aware that there are some IOS update restrictions using Mobile Data. From when this feature has been added? Please support.
You may download and update iOS using cellular data if (and only if) you use 5G cellular.

Thank you for your detailed eye on the screenshot. Can you please explain if this is a bug or a normal behavior for IOS allowing software updates on LTE? If it’s an abnormal behavior, can you think of a reason why it is like this?

Your screenshot above shows “LTE”, which would not be able to download or install iOS updates.
Enjoy your Apple gear.
That option appears almost certainly because as you said:
”Yes, I am on 5G Auto mode.”
