reusing a deleted Apple ID

I was just talking with Apple Support and was advised on how to delete an Apple ID which I read on line. It is an old ID we set up many years ago but never used. We need to delete it but want to use it again. When I read on this forum about reusing it, it appears that it can never be used again. However Apple support tells me that in 90 days I can use it again.

Can someone verify on which is accurate?

Thanks

There’s an easier way.

You can change the email address on the existing Apple ID:

Change your Apple ID - Apple Support

If you want, you can switch the probably ISP-assigned email address to an iCloud address from Apple. (If you choose to do that, make certain you have a separate recovery path, on the off chance you lose access to the Apple ID as that’ll block access to the iCloud email address too.)

Before performing the email address change, I would strongly recommend setting the trusted telephone numbers and the recovery contact info. Basically, prepare your account for the potential of losing access to the email address, should something go wrong.

Two-factor authentication for Apple ID - Apple Support

Set up an account recovery contact - Apple Support

Then log out of the Apple ID on your Mac, iPad, iPhone, and other devices.

Then make the email address change.

That makes no sense at all. An AppleID is just the primary email address used as the login ID. If you want to use it, just reset the password or recover the account and start using it.

You can edit any of the personal information associated with your AppleID at https://appleid.apple.com/ and you can change the primary email address used there as well. Deleting it just to reuse seems senseless?

And based on posts here, no, the primary email address of a deleted AppleID can never be used as an AppleID again. No user has yet posted back, to my knowledge, that the address is ever useable again to make an AppleID. In Apple’s archives, it remains linked as the user ID for certain financial and purchase data they have to keep on record for every user.

Why not get another email address and change the email address on the ID you want to delete? That frees up the email address to be used on your primary Apple ID.

Apple hasn’t published any guidance for using an address again. Normally, if your e-mail address was associated with an ID in any way, for example as a Notification email address or a Rescue e-mail address, then it can't be reused as an  Apple ID email address for approximately one year. I have also seen posts that stated Apple told them there was a 30 day waiting period before the address could be used again. You will need to get another e-mail address from somewhere like AOL or Yahoo to use as your Apple ID or you can try waiting 30 days to see if that works.

“We need to delete it but want to use it again” is exceedingly contradictory.

If you should permanently delete an Apple ID, the Apple ID is permanently deleted.

If you want to reuse an email address, I’m not sure that the deleted email address ever comes available, due to the potential for scams and fraud.

I’ll assume there is some reason why you aren’t using the existing Apple ID with the existing email address, and want to (presumably) shift the email address to another Apple ID.

Sorry I wasn't clear, our current apple id is an email that we will be loosing shortly due to moving out of the service area. We have another email we set up as an old Apple TV apple ID but never used this Apple TV account. The is however our active "Gmail" account. It is the "Gmail" email we want to use after loosing our non-gmail email which all our devices are currently using as the Apple ID.

The apple support people said if we delete the Apple ID we used for the Apple TV account we can reuse it in 90 days, this is what I was trying to confirm if in fact it can be done as the forums seem to contradict this information.

Thank you
