Buying in game rewards

I bought a $25 apple gift card. I am trying to purchase the pass Royale in the game clash Royale. When I press the button to purchased it brings me to a page where it shows a selection of what to buy it with. When I pressed where it say the balance that I have($25 from the gift card) it just says add balance or redeem gift card. What do I do to buy ingame rewards.
