I turned on imessage with iCloud email but disable cell phone number to avoid junk iMessage. However, when i try to send iMessage to my wife, it said I cannot send iMessage because my iMessage is not turned on?

On an iPhone, you need the cell phone number. iMessage confirms activation using an SMS message (which you don't see).
For some reason, my iMessages are all going out with my @iCloud.com account address and NOT my phone number. I have not changed anything... My Friends/contacts are asking who this is. How can I get back working with my phone number again?
