I do not want to transfer all information from my desktop to my MacBook Pro. How do I do this?

Apple's Migration/Setup Assistant does not offer any granularity in what is transferred within a user folder. You would need to manually transfer the items you want. You may find Carbon Copy Cloner useful to select and copy files depending on your goals.

Depending on how much information you wish to transfer, you could log in to iCloud and turn on iCloud Drive on both computers, copy files there from your desktop, then copy them to your MacBook Pro. You can expand your iCloud storage to 50 GB for $0.99 a month. You can cancel the extra storage subscription when you have finished copying your files.
