connecting AirPods to Mac

hi everyone, I have a MacBook Pro and the AirPods 3rd gen, and since yesterday when I connect the AirPods to the Mac, only one ear at a time chooses to play audio. but when I connect it to my iPhone then both ears work. does anyone know how to fix this? I've already tried restarting the Mac and disconnecting the AirPods and reconnecting it.

When I had that problem, I fixed it by resetting the AirPods according to How to reset your AirPods and AirPods Pro - Apple Support.
