New mac migration assistant errors

Moving from old Mac with high sierra to new Mac. After several hours of migration, I get an error “Sorry an error occurred while transferring your information”. Apparently some documents are not transferred, but there is no detail. I found that my favorites and bookmarks are not transferred for example. I turned off the sleep function and tried again with no improvement. Any ideas?

Migrating from another Mac, very old and slow, via Wi-Fi.

I would not recommend Wi-Fi

get an adapter if needed USB-C to USB Adapter - Apple

Create a backup if necessary to get compatible ports....

The most trouble free way to move to a new machine, is using the Setup Assistant on the initial boot of a brand new machine— you have one shot here. Set up your MacBook Pro - Apple Support

The second best way is use the Migration Assistant.

Two cents here and IMHO only.

If the new computer is going to be the Apple Silicon M1 Equipped Computer - would suggest Only Migrating the User Account and nothing more.

Some have had success and other have been left with a mess when Migrating Everything.

1 - Apple Silicon with either Big Sur macOS 11 or Monterey macOS 12 Only Support everything 64 bit and there is no workaround.

2 - Issues that may exist on the older computer will be migrated to the New Computer. This would badly pollute the new Original and Pristine installation of the new OS.

3 -  Applications, extensions and Software Drivers may or may not even work on the new computer.

4 - IMHO - it would be best to only install new application etc Directly from the Developer or the Apple Apps Store.

5 - Due Diligence on New Applications and make sure they are Monterey / Big Sur compatible and factor in the ARMs CPU of the Apple Silicon Computer

When I migrated everything from my 2013 Mac Pro to my Studio Max my first attempt was during initial setup of the Studio and it froze with 17 minutes remaining. I cancelled the migration and then fremigrated after I setup the Studio. When I did it toldme that there was already info with same users asked me what to do with it (Retain or delete). I said delete the already migrated stuff and the migration completed w/o problems. I took the NVMe drive out of the Mac Pro and placed it in a USB-C enclosure and migration of 300 GB took less than an hour.

Well, no luck on the 3rd migration attempt with Wi-Fi and transferring only the account data- seems to get stuck at the 101700th file.

4th attempt was with Ethernet connection on both computers. Also stuck, now at file 101701, for some reason.

any more suggestions?

If there is corruption, I would not beat my head against the wall

I would simple try one of your alternative backups....for this very reason

3-2-1 Backup Strategy: three copies of your data, two different methods, and one offsite.
