AirPod Pro making crackling wind sound after being in washing machine.

I left my AirPods Pro in the case in the washing machine and now the left AirPod Pro is making a crackling wind sound when in Transparency Mode. I did not dry them after I got them out. A temporary solution is to switch it to Noice Cancelling Mode as it seems to be better even if I switch them back to Transparency Mode afterwards. However I would like a better and more long-term solution.
