iMac into long term storage - what do I need to do?

Hi all,

Will be working abroad soon and will be putting imac into storage for 2-3 years.

Apart from common sense measures (still have original packaging), do I need to worry about data loss if internal battery depletes fully?

thanks

P.

That is correct, backup your system! I would recommend at least 2 backups of your system prior to storing it. This will require 2 separate external HD's. NEVER EVER use a backup EHD for anything other than the backup. Why, simply drives fail and you would not to lose both backups if the drive failed, that would defeat the whole purpose of a backup.

Disk 1 you can use for a Time Machine backup. Disk 2 you should create a bootable clone backup using either SuperDuper! or Carbon Copy Cloner, either app will work fine. When it comes to backing up, redundancy is extremely wise.
