"You can only add the @icloud.com address that is already on file in your account." How do I fix it ?

Tried changing my appleID to an alias, that was created over 60 days ago, but this pops up "You can only add the @icloud.com address that is already on file in your account." What does it mean and how do I fix it ?

Hello ElenaHugo,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities!

If we understand your post correctly, you're getting a message saying you can only add the @icloud.com address that is already on file in your account and you'd like to know what that means. We're happy to help!

The article you came from, Change your Apple ID, is a great resource to answer your question.

If you can't change your Apple ID

If you try to change your Apple ID to an @icloud.com email address that was created within the last 30 days, you will be asked to try again later.
If you see a message that the email address you want to use isn't available or is already in use, check that you or a family member aren't already using that email address with a different Apple ID. If a family member is using that email address, remove it from their account then try to use it.
In some countries or regions, you can use your phone number as your Apple ID. But if your Apple ID is an email address, you can't change it to a phone number.

We'd also like to provide an article for what things you should do after changing your Apple ID or the password.

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

Take care!

@dawngreg08,

Thank you so much for taking your time to answer the question and assist us relatively nooby noobs. I am unable to find a reference anywhere in the article to the error that both @ElenaHugo and I are having. Nowhere in the article does it address how to fix the error that pops up when I chose my new icloud.com apple id.

My Apple ID was a novelty tertiary email address when I made it up several years ago. My relationship with Apple and Apple products has changed dramatically since then and I now need my ID to be much more professional and not have my current Apple ID associated with my account. I get the error "You can only add the icloud.com address that is already on file in your account." I am going to include a screenshot.

The article really does leave out chunks of information as well as possible and probable if-then situations. If you or anyone else could provide more clarity on this specific error, that causes it, and how to fix what is prohibiting us from changing our current icloud.com Apple ID to a new, different icloud.com Apple ID.

Thank you kindly for any additional assistance you can provide!
