Only backup showing on Mac is 4 years old but old iPhone says backup yesterday
Tried restoring new iPhone 13 from backup but the only backups showing are 4 years old. iPhone I’m replacing successfully backed up yesterday

The phone you backed up yesterday may have had a newer version of iOS than the new iPhone 13 has. Go to Settings/General/About on each phone and check. If this is the case set up the new phone without restoring a backup, go to Settings/General/Software Update and update it. Then reset it to factory settings and go through the setup process again.

Thanks so much Lawrence -- indeed I was on 15.4.1 on the "old" iPhone and 15.4 on the new… and your suggestion worked like a charm.
