Migration Assistant issue

I used Migration Assistant on my new MacBook Pro (it took a few days to get a cable for the Time Machine drive for my old MacBook). It made a new user (somewhat annoying) to go with what I had already done, but the big issue is that if I select the user loaded via the Migration Assistant after re-starting, I just get the little spinning hyphens below the icon and the desktop never loads (in 15+ minutes). How do I either get it to load or get it deleted?
