how can I backup my Mac after accidentally installing malware yesterday?

If you're worried your Time Machine backups contain the malware, erase the TM drive in Disk Utility and recreate TM from scratch.


Yes, you will lose history, but if your machine is operating properly that is a secondary concern. Having to erase and recreate the TM backup is a small price to pay for allowing malware into your Mac.
