Apple Watch 7 sync

Yesterday I exchanged my wifi watch for a cellular model. I thought that the watch was backed up to my iPhone automatically and sync with iCloud.

At the Apple Store they synced my wifi watch with the cellular. Apps seems to have been moved but so many preferences and setups (watch displays and modification made to models, position of all app in the display, etc ...) were not.

What went wrong ? Is the Watch synced and what really is ?

Apple sales person said that no backup was offered to him to choose from ... but he also said that some apps were synced and that they do not figure in the basic Apple configuration.

What went wrong ? Maybe he didn't unpair the previous Watch.

That being said, other than unpairing the Watch, how is the backup made or initiated ? I would not want to reconfigure my Apple Watch and having to loose all my work once again.

Thanks for your reply.

Apple sales person said that many of the apps appearing on my new and synced ? Watch were not in Apple's basic configuration ... thus having him to say that some of the Watch's settings are not included in the sync process. Does he doesn't know was he is talking about ?

How do I know if my Watch has been synced with either my iPhone or iCloud ?

I understand loud and clear what you say ... I tested unpairing and it works. All settings were restored. I don't understand what went wrong at the Apple Store.

Unpairing/Pairing cannot be the only trouble free backup strategy ? There must be a way to backup once in a while automatically.

If the Watch's settings are on the iPhone could it be that those settings are saved in the iPhone's backup to iCloud ?

You can always do this;

This isn't a miracle cure but what I do is make an encrypted backup of the phone in Itunes on a computer very regulary,then if something goes awry then I just restore the backup back onto the phone,this allows me to experiment and research different things with the watch which I do quite regulary and should anything get messed up it takes 10 minutes to get back where I was before it happened.

In 5 years of owning various watches I can honestly say that I haven't lost a single byte of data.

The only way to be sure is to try upairing through the watch app on the phone then try pairing again,bear in mind that when you unpair the backup that is made will only have what setting is on your watch now.

So when you re-pair the watch try and restore from an older backup if you have one.

When you unpair the watch the backup happens automatically in the background,It looks like you don't have much choice now exept to re-pair and setup as new.
