Replacing MacBook screen with portable monitor

Hi everyone,

My screen went suddenly dead and Mac certified repair centre advised replacing the display for 700 pounds!!

I am thinking of removing the display and getting a portable monitor as I can't afford 700 pounds now and I have work to do with the laptop.

I have 3 questions please:

1- Is this a good Idea and will the Mac function well without the built in screen?

2- could I do it myself or do you advise to get an expert to remove the screen?

3- Any advice regarding a good portable monitor compatible with MacBook Pro 13", 2020.

These are my Mac specifications:

2.0GHz quad-core 10th-generation Intel Core i5 processor, Turbo Boost up to 3.8GHz

13-inch Retina display with True Tone

Touch Bar and Touch ID

Intel Iris Plus GraphicsFour

Thunderbolt 3 ports

Backlit Magic Keyboard

Thanks in advance

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 12.3

Why would remove the screen...(?)

plug in an external monitor if your GPU is working as expected.

Thanks for reply.

I just feel that aligning the monitor with the keyboard is more comfortable to me than using a side monitor

I would not recommend removing the display, this requires dismantling the mac from the inside out.

In your case I would simply get an external keyboard if your requirement are as stated above.
