Hi friends. Well it seems again that my graphics card is failing. I cannot express my level of dissappointment with apple on this issue. My third computer that has this issue. I would like to know if there is a way to make sure its the GC this time. is there any way to test the computer to check?

I thank everyone in advanced for answer. All the best

Possibly. Hard to say. Look for Panics in the logs. Finder->Applications->Utilities->Console->Crash Reports

I would try a PRAM reset and see how that fares before anything else: Link-> Reset NVRAM or PRAM on your Mac - Apple Support

If you install a Discrete GPU-disabler, you lose the ability for Mac sleep. however the Display sleeps fine.

What makes you think it's the graphics card? What is happening exactly?

The 15" models had a thermal issue with the discreet Nvidia GPU. Some claim to have solved it by re-appluying thermal compound to the graphics card between the GPU and the heatsink

Apple no longer offers a repair program for these models however.

If it were the GPU, you would be getting black screens and GPU panics in the error logs.

Hi folks. just wanted to follow up on this in case anyone else has these problems.

So it seems like the computer is working fine in general. Its when I use Lightroom and FCP that the programs crash. All the programs work fine. Which is why i thought the graphics card was going. I decided to change the external disk I was running the programs off of...and well....it seems to have solved the issue some how. But I am always afraid it will happen again. Could it be that my external TB 2 drive is going bad or something? Yikes

All comments highly appreciated :-)
