How do you edit metadata for audiobooks in the books app on Mac Monterey

I have a few audiobooks with the title tracks out of order.

How do I edit the information so I can have it organized properly?

How to edit audiobook metadata in Books? After upgrading to Catalina my audio books are a shamble. My whole collection of audiobooks have moved to the iTunes replacing 'Books' app. In the process many have been pulled apart into their separate chapters and I can't get Books to recognise them as belonging to the one audio book. How can I edit the metadata of audio books (that were not purchased in the Apple audio book store) so that all these separate chapters are recognized and played as one book? This question has never been answered with the upgrade to Monterey, still the same problem.

WHY - Can I Edit Author or Name in the audiobooks I have added to iBooks on MacOS (12.1) I currently have over 2,000 audiobook titles in my iBooks library and as a result I have had to organise them by Author, Book Series and Title. This is easy to do with the source files - by editing the file name AND all associated entries (tags or fields) using Tag Editor. I have had to accept the fact that UNLIKE iTunes or Music one cannot make such edits within the iBooks app. So I copy the source file, make the edits to this version; then delete the title I wish to change from iBooks, restart the App, and add the new version of the file with new File Name, Author, Book Series and/or Title saved into the file. More often than not the Title appears back in iBooks with precisely the same Title and Author as were shown in the version I deleted. AND this is just nuts. I hesitate to try to edit the Books.plist, which I believe is the Library Database, without knowing precisely how to do this. Does anyone know how to change the performance of iBooks or to Edit Library entries for title or author?

How to edit metadata for Audiobooks in the Books app I tried to answer this in the other thread but the reply button was greyed out so most likely the discussion was too old. Since macOS Catalina apparently, you can no longer edit the metadata in the Books app for audiobooks you (or someone you know and love like significant others) create. At least, if Apple has added the feature back I haven't found it. So, what to do? Download Audacity - it's open source and free. OPEN or IMPORT your audio file. Once it's opened, go to the Edit menu and select Metadata. Edit your metadata there. Then EXPORT your file in whatever format available to you. I use mp3. If exporting to the same location, you'll either need to overwrite the existing file or give the file a new name. You can also OPEN or IMPORT the file then EXPORT it without using the edit metadata feature. Simply give the file a new filename and the metadata window will open as part of the export process. Once you've updated the metadata, import the file into Books. The updated metadata information should now appear. It's a pain, I know. But it's the only work around I've been able to find. Perhaps Apple's developers will realize the mistake they made and give us back the ability to edit metadata from within the Books app but until then, this works.
