Good day. My Mail app keeps quitting, immediately after launching. What could be the problem?

With the Mail Application Closed - SHIFT key and click Mail to launch it.
This is like a Safe Boot of the Application and not the computer.
I have the same problem, starting with the shift key as suggested opens mail but mail quits as soon as I try to open the in-box or any other mailbox with messages in them.
That didn't make any difference for me. When I try to launch mail, there is a long pause, 10 to 15 sec., then it launches the window opens, then it crashes and quits.

Well that worked for a couple of months, problem has reappeared.
Also prior to this I just set up new "add rule" to stop specific email, curiously had had no rules in there.
Any ideas appreciated, thanks for your time.
