Screen Recording file saved to desktop now missing after trying to send via Mail (Mail Drop)

I recorded my screen and settings are set to save these files on the desktop. After I stopped recording, the file opened and I tried to email the file using Mail from the up arrow icon. Mail said the attachment was too large to send and I needed to use Mail Drop (iCloud). Mail crashed and there's no draft email with the attachment and that Screen Recording file is now missing under Desktop. Where did it go? I NEED this recording today! Please help - where do I find it?

Hello msmomma3,

Thanks for posting in Apple Support Communities. First, make sure that your still set to your preference of saving screen recordings to Desktop - Take screenshots or screen recordings on Mac - Apple Support. Next, try searching Finder for "Screen Recording". Does anything come up there? If not, check your Trash as well.

If the same continues, testing in another admin user account can also help to isolate where this occurs. If you don't have another admin user account to test, you can set up a temporary account using the steps from Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac.

In most cases, issues that occur in one user account are related to login items. So, if you find that an issue only occurs in your user account, remove your login items and test again. Check out Remove login items to resolve startup problems on your Mac.

Take care.
