How do you know if your FaceTime call is going through to the receiver?

Hi,

Many times I have tried to call using Facetime only to hear back from the person that they did not receive any calls. I have also heard a lot of people say they called me on Facetime and it went through on their end, however, I did not receive any calls and there are no missed calls.

For regular phone calls and for eg Whatsapp, there are ways to tell if the call is going through. Is there any way to tell if a Facetime call is going through to the receiver? Also why might the calls not go through even though there are no network issues.

Hello, Teamark.

Let's start off by checking the helpful steps in this article: If you can't make a FaceTime call on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support. This will help if your FaceTime calls are just not working as expected. That said, as with all iPhone calls, FaceTime calls do show up in your Recent calls as a placed call and in the same location for the person you are calling. It would show as a Missed Call for them. There is not a way to tell if the call is going through, but if it doesn't show you a failure on your end, it should be ringing for them as expected.

Teamark,

The status of a FaceTime call does not change until the call is accepted and it switches to ‘connecting’.

Apple does have a feedback site set up where you can provide suggestions like this on changes you’d like to see made. Here’s a link - Product Feedback.

When troubleshooting connectivity issues, things to consider are if this is happening with multiple contacts and when connected to multiple networks.

Thank you for the reply. I am able to make facetime calls just fine but I am more concerned about how that actually works. For instance, I call a number 3 times using facetime and it goes through on my end and rings till the end each time. My friend on the other end did not get the first 2 calls and only see my call on the third trial. This is very confusing as on my end, it sounded like it was successful all three times when in reality, the call only went through one time. This is a common problem I have heard with many facetime users.

As an example of what I am hoping is available, when you make calls on whatsapp, it shows "calling" but changes that to "ringing" when the other people is receiving the call. If the person's mobile data/wifi is off, whatsapp shows "calling" and not "ringing" whereas facetime just keeps ringing like the other party can see the call when really they cant.

Is there any way to tell if the call really is going through on facetime as well? If not, its a really useful "minor" feature that helps clarify if the other party can see the calls or not. To be clear, I am not referring to when they have focus mode on or are busy at the moment to accept the call.

Thank you, I'll send feedback, I just wanted to know if this existed and I didn't know about it.

Yes I understand that there are multiple issues that might be in play when it comes to connectivity, that's more to the point im trying to make :) If the call shows one status when its not going through (for whatever reason) and then another status when everything is good and its just a genuine missed call.

The only status change is as youve mentioned which is when the receiver answers the call and it shows as connecting. I'm more worried about me calling and thinking its going through to them but they never got any calls on their end.
