My front facing camera is tilted, FaceID won’t take because of it

Hi: I wanted to add alternate appearance to my FaceID but the front camera keeps saying “place your face in the square” and can’t seem to see me. I’m facing it straight-on but I appear tilted in the frame. Trying to adjust for this but FaceID won’t take.

What happened? Worked fine when phone was new (less than 1 year, 13 pro max). Is this hardware issue or would a full reset fix? Advice appreciated!
