I am unable to unlock an older Pages document in what is now Pages 12.0.

Am I out of luck with editing the original? I am using a copy of the document, so that's not an issue. I just want to be able to work on the original.

My iMac is running OS Monterey 12.3.1, if that's pertinent.

Thanks!

iMac 24″, macOS 12.3

If that original Pages document was created by Pages '05, '06, '08, or '09 then it is in the old document format that Pages v5 through v12, must convert to the current Pages document format before editing can continue. When you do that, the document created by one of the mentioned Pages versions is converted and no longer exists in the old document format.

To edit original Pages '05 thru '09 documents, in their original document format, you will need the Pages '09 v4.3 application on an Intel Mac running macOS 10.14.6, or 10.13.6 and earlier.
