Traditional Chinese Handwriting Input disappearing from enabled input sources

When I enable Traditional Chinese Handwriting input under "Input Sources", sometimes it disappears from the enabled input sources and I have to enable it again.

This problem is inconsistent and I cannot replicate it. I cannot find the reason why it keeps dissapearing. Sometimes it is when I'm changing the focus on different applications and sometimes it's when I open and close the lid on my Macbook Pro, so I cannot determine what it is that's causing this bug.

Moreover, sometimes I cannot get the handwriting module to show up using Shift+ Control+Space. This also happens randomly, and I cannot pinpoint under what conditions the shortcut doesn't work.

If anyone has any information about this issue, please share it here.

Hello pointofgravity,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities!

If we understand your post correctly, sometimes when you enable Traditional Chinese Handwriting it disappears and sometimes you can't get the handwriting module to show up. We'd like to help!

In order to use the handwriting input option, you must have a trackpad (either built-in on a MacBook Pro, or Bluetooth). You may not see the option if you do not have a trackpad, but if you do the information in Use Trackpad Handwriting to write Chinese or Cantonese on Mac will help you set it up.

Let us know if you have any questions.

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

Hello dawngreg08.

As indicated in my post, I am using a MacBook Pro 16″ running macOS 12.3. The trackpad is built in on a Macbook Pro.

I am also concerned that you did not understand my post correctly. The Trackpad Handwriting option sometimes outright disappears from the input sources that I have enabled. That means that while I have enabled it before in input sources, sometimes I have to go back into input sources and add the trackpad handwriting option again.

Here is a detailed step by step process of my problem:

  1. Go to System Preferences
  2. Go to Keyboard
  3. Go to Input Sources
  4. Click "+" and add "Handwriting - Traditional"
  5. [Unknown reason] Trackpad handwriting does not appear after some time. It could be because I have switched the focus from one app to the other, or that I have opened and closed the macbook pro, or have woken it from sleep. In any case, sometimes it does not appear.
  6. Repeat from step 1

I have tried to replicate this problem, and as said before, the results are inconsistent and I cannot pinpoint exactly what causes the Handwriting - Traditional Input Source to become disabled on it's own.

This issue is quite irritating, as it requires me to keep having to re-enable the input source over and over again. Please help me try and troubleshoot this.
