Look under About This Mac>Overview>System Report>Hardware and then the method of connection which is likely USB.

The card reader should be listed. The listing will include a card when a card is inserted.

Unless a card is inserted the card reader/card will not show in Finder or Disk Utility.

Unless there's a card inserted the Mac can read , you won't see the actual reader hardware on the Mac except maybe in Apple Menu->About This Mac->System Report->USB (assuming its attached over USB)

With a readable card inserted, the card itself should appear in Finder (SD cards), and on the desktop. Or in whatever App uses the card if its not a storage type of card.

You can alternatively open Disk Utility, and the card will also appear there even if it cannot be mounted in Finder.
