Screen dims in sunlight…too much!

Why does my screen dim to almost “off” when trying to do things in the sunshine? Android actually is useful in that it brightens the screen in the sunshine so you can see it. Apple does the opposite…darkens the screen as you use it in the sun little by little… so much so that you can’t see anything at all. My phone is as bright as it can be and I have all the dim settings turned off. But it still does this! Has anyone fixed the problem yet? I forget using your phone at the beach to take videos of your friends! You’ll never be able to see the screen.

Long, and would indicate more it is a user problem. You do have autobrightness turned on?

Also, what type of screen did your previous phone running android have? Certain screens do better in sunlight than others and oddly enough older technology screens do better than newer high quality screens. You can also try screen protectors designed to ameliorate reflections.

I'm going through the Help center as soon as I have some time this evening...I'll update here once I found a solution. Meanwhile, True Tone is off, and autobrightness I have turned off. And NOPE! when I checked again just now, it is ON. And i did not turn it on. Does it automatically reset somehow or maybe when the phone reboots?
