Portrait mode

Portrait mode on my camera app only works when it is in selfie mode. When I try to use it in the front facing position it doesn’t recognize a face so doesn’t work. I have a iPhone XR. Thank you!

.5x and portrait mode not working on 11pro max camera .5x works on everything except the normal rear face camera portion (works on pano, video, slow-mo and timelapse, but not photo) and portrait mode just acts like normal “photo” mode but at 2x. this is a BRAND NEW iPhone 11 Pro Max (I got it earlier this afternoon because my old pro max was doing the SAME THING and they had to replace the phone)
