External drive problem

When I switch to Windows 11 the external drive used for time machine disconnects. Message comes up that it’s being used by another application, quit that application. Quitting Windows 11 doesn’t help. The time machine app is gone from the desktop.

The only way I’ve found to reconnect the external drive is to restart.

Any other suggestions.
