export file as audio track - Not Working Consistently On Auxes

Exporting Stems. My final Auxes (before 2 bus) are in the arrange window so they can be selected and exported as stems.

Some Auxes have tracks routed directly to them, others have stacks (both kinds) routed to them.

Exporting 9 stems, selected the Auxes on the arrange page, export 9 files as audio tracks.

They do not all export. Drum Kit Aux in particular will not export. Logic tries, and ends up with a 4kb file which it dumps in the trash.

Does Logic have a limit to how complicated the stacks are before it cannot export an Aux? I am sure PT does not have this problem.

I have tried all manner of restarts and different choices at the export dialog window. No Fix.

I have seen others with the same problem. Does anybody have a solution?

SOLVED! (well sort of)

By removing elements from my Aux one by one, I found the offending element.

I use an old analog trick on kick drum occasionally, where I send Kick to an Aux with a drastic EQ +12 @ 40 Hz, then send that signal to another Aux with the same EQ and output it back to the first EQ Aux, creating a feedback loop at the desired frequency.

Well, Logic does not allow the export of the track if a circular (feedback) routing is in place. If I want to use this trick, I will have to print the result and remove the feedback routing in order to export the final Aux.

You absolutely CAN export an Aux track from your Arrange window ("empty"). Logic will support multiple Aux routing depth (one Aux feeding another), summing stacks, folder stacks, etc. but, the routing cannot be circular (feedback loop).

Assign the desired aux(s) to an output (other than the 'main' or 'stereo' output i.e. create output '3-4' {or whatever} in your mixer). 'Bounce' the new output, name it appropriately, define the Destination, file format, bit resolution, etc… select 'add to project' deselect 'add to iTunes'. The reason your aux tracks don’t export is because they don’t contain audio.

I didn’t mean that routing to a different output would solve the issue. What I meant was that by routing the aux to an alternate output it could be bounced as an audio file without including other tracks. After it’s bounced, import it to the track arrangement and then assign it to the main out. I often experience the same issue… certain tracks don’t export. This is a simple solution.

I would rather not revert to an earlier version, but that is a reasonable solution. Do you have any experience with bouncing empty Aux tracks which have been added to the arrange page and have signal routed through them?

Why did 5 "empty" Aux tracks export correctly, but one did not?

This is the signal flow on the 5 Aux tracks:

BVs: audio tracks and fx Auxes > Summing stack > Aux 5

Ld Vox: audio tracks and fx Auxes > VCA stack > Aux 4

Gtr: audio tracks and fx Auxes > VCA stack > Aux 3

Bass: audio tracks and fx Auxes > VCA stack > Aux 2

Drum Kit: audio tracks and fx Auxes > audio tracks and 3 Sum stacks > Aux 1

Aux 1 will not export from the arrange page, but Aux 1-4 will export.

Come on Apple. We need the ability to export stems.

Ah, I see. I need solutions for exporting all stems at once. Of course, in a pinch, I could bounce one at a time, or as you suggested.

You asked in an earlier comment, what is different about that Aux. That was a workable instinct, as i started tearing apart that Aux signal flow , piece by piece, until I found the offending element.

Please look above, as I did figure out what element of my session was blocking the export.

I saw your post regarding the feedback loop. Interesting that the program rejects it.

I've had no luck exporting multiple tracks as stems. Not that i can't perform the function, rather, the resulting exports change the timing of the audio. Kick drums no longer lock up to the bass and guitars flam when they didn't used to.

I've always experienced timing issues with logic since Emagic vrs 4.0.-
