IOS native QR code scanning

If I use iOS scan feature (see bottom right icon in pic below) in IOS 15 and it takes me to a web page then if I toggle to another app from that web page I lose the page which the QR code directed me to.

it is extremely frustrating in lots of scenarios (eg restaurants, galleries, museums, airport lounges) given post pandemic dependence on QR codes.

One work around is to use Google app and use camera icon next to search field and scan QR code with that.

Does anyone know if there a fix for the IOS issue?

Unfortunately for whatever reason that is not the case for me. There is no record on safari.

From what I have gleaned from other posts in different forums I am not alone - the issue is that the QR app is a standalone app and is not simply a front end to Safari.

This contradicts the behavior I observe.

Reiterating the scenario, I scan the QR code and then visit the website using Safari. Then, regardless of intervening actions, applications, etc., the visited page is in Safari’s history.
