Do you have a model number? It should be under Settings > General > About > Model Number. There are actually two. One will likely begin with an M (although there are others) and if you tap on it, it will bring up a model number starting with an A. This will tell you what version it is and you can look up the frequencies it handles.
It may not work if it's carrier locked even if the frequencies are compatible. Check under Settings > General > About > Carrier Lock.
