Google Drive and Time Machine

A quick tip more than a question since I couldn't reply to a previous question which was asked too long ago (thread closed).

For those who want to back up their Google Drive via TimeMachine, a change a few months ago modified the way Google Drive is working by default.

It now creates a virtual drive and only files are only streamed when needed. This prevents their backup with TimeMachine.

The workaround it to revert to the old Google Drive behavior by going in the Google Drive preference and choose "Mirror Files".

This will copy all the Google Drive's files in your User's folder (under "Google Drive"). This way TimeMachine will be able to capture them...

This of course comes at the expense of some space on your HD (but allows you to get to your files offline).

Hopes this trick helps,

T.
