I have an older external DVD drive that I am trying to use with my Mac Mini. I am running Mac OS 12.3.1.
If I connect directly to the computer or via a non-powered hub, I get a "USB devices have been disabled, disconnect the power drawing device to re-enable" or something like that. If I connect through a powered hub I get nothing, no message and no drive listed in Finder or Disk Utility.

What brand and model is the external CD/DVD drive?
Could be the cord or the drive. Does the drive work plugged into another Mac or PC?

my external blueray burner came with a cable with mini or micro I forget USB in one end and 2 usb-a connectors in the other end
for it to work one cable (the power only one) goes into a ac power hub or some old iphone charger and the other end directly into the mac mini
The OEM is Magicspin DVDRW 1016IM, I had it mounted in a firewire case. I have not tried it in another computer yet.
I tried a different external CR-RW/DVD-R drive which is powered by the hub and connected directly to the computer. This setup does not mount either.
