Hard Drive Temp Sensor 2017 MBP 15

Hello,

Today I replaced a badly swollen battery in my 2017 MacBook Pro 15 Model A1707. When I restarted, the fans went to 100% and the kernel_task is using in excess of 500% CPU. A diagnostic tool indicates that the hard drive temperature sensor array is suspect. Is this sensor array serviceable? Is it external or internal to the drive itself? Could this be a cable issue only? Hard drive replacement? Etc...

A 15" model has the SSD soldered onto the Logic Board. If you used liquid adhesive remover to remove the battery, then maybe some of that liquid has damaged the Logic Board. If you removed the Logic Board during the procedure, then most likely you damaged something on the Logic Board in the process. If the SSD temperature sensor is shown as bad, then there isn't anything you can do unless you can find someone to repair the Logic Board. It is hard to say whether Apple will even touch the laptop now, but from the posts I've seen on these forums it is unlikely Apple will help you now especially with a third party battery installed.

Good luck.

Already done. I reverted back to the original battery. Everything visible and as per the installation guides is ok. Unless there's something under the logic board that was pulled loose it's as factory. I scanned under the logic board with a flashlight to see if there was anything obvious under there that could be pulled or knocked loose when the battery was removed and did not see anything obvious. Unless there is a ribbon cable under there that is responsible for hard drive sensor connectivity, I don't think I've overlooked anything.

With the original battery in place, the fans go to 100% and the CPU is at ~500% usage, so this behavior *is* due to the disturbance of the chassis and/or installation of the battery. I'm afraid I may have simply aggrevated an existing fault. The original batteries were more swollen than I thought. There was a lot of pressure inside this unibody case.

I was hoping that a new SSD would be the solution, but it seems the sensor array is native to the logic board.
