Audio Player Stops Playing Audiobooks

I listen to Audiobooks daily on LibriVox and ChristianAudio.com. All of the sudden they randomly stop playing while listening, then it’s very difficult to figure out where I was in the book because it goes back to the beginning of the previous chapter.

I have an iPhone 6 & 7 and we have done all of the suggested restarting and cleaning out and updating and reloading the apps to no avail! I am so frustrated and being a home bound senior grandma I feel like I have lost my best friend now that I can no longer listen to my books on my phone.

Hey GrandmaAA,

When you listen to the books, are they downloaded to their apps, or are they streaming?

If streaming, test while using cellular data and also Wi-Fi. This test can help to isolate if there is an issue with a network connection.

If downloading the audio books to the apps, it may be an issue with the download. Deleting and redownloading the audiobook may help. Again, testing with cellular data and Wi-Fi, to determine if the download itself was having issues.

Since these apps are not Apple apps, you'll want to verify that the App Store doesn't have any updates available.

How to manually update apps on your iPhone or iPad
1. Open the App Store.
2. Tap your profile icon at the top of the screen.
3. Scroll to see pending updates and release notes. Tap Update next to an app to update only that app, or tap Update All.
iPhone showing a list of available updates for 5 different apps.

Lastly, if you're still having issues, and other internet dependent apps, such as Apple's Music app, work as expected, you'll want to contact the app developer: How to contact an app developer - Apple Support

Hello GrandmaAA,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. Are you accessing the audiobooks from websites in Safari? If so, the steps in the following resource can help when websites don't work as expected:

If Safari displays a blank page or quits on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

The remaining steps in the following resource can help if the issue occurs with apps:

If an app on your iPhone or iPad stops responding, closes unexpectedly, or won’t open - Apple Support

If the issue persists, tell us more about what you're experiencing. Does the issue occur when connected to a different network? Be sure to include any other steps that you may have tried.

Cheers!
