tel: phone number links issue in non Apple apps

tel: phone number links work as expected when clicked from in web page in Safari or email in Apple mail. Options of Facetime, Send Message, Add to Contacts, Copy Phone number pop up in addition to 3rd party voip clients such as Zoiper and Google voice, but when using non apple apps such as Google Chrome, Outlook email client, Gmail, clicking a tel: link only gives the options for Facetime, Send Message, Add to Contacts, Copy Phone number. The non apple Voip apps are not listed as an option to complete the tel: link.

Since this is only happening with third-party apps, have you reached out to those app developers to make sure this is supported with their app? If not, we recommend doing that first: How to contact an app developer

If it is supported, these steps may help: If an app on your iPhone or iPad stops responding, closes unexpectedly, or won’t open

Thanks Tammy,

Being Google Chrome web browser is one of them, I'm sure they support clicking tel links just like they do on android or computers. This seems to be more of an Apple security issue not allowing tel links for any apps but the built in Apple apps.
