Bose USB Audio Speakers Do Not Reliably Work on Mac Studio "Audio MIDI Setup"

I own Bose speakers that connect via USB 2.x. I've had them for ten years.

They require setup via "Audio MIDI Setup."

Over the years, I have never had a problem on multiple Macs.

Last week I used "Audio MIDI Setup" to connect them to a new Mac Studio via one of the two USB-A ports in the back of the Mac Studio.

Problem: they do not stay connected, despite their status in "Audio MIDI Setup," which shows that they remain selected as the device for sound output, etc. (See image.)

The only way I can get them to play sound again is to restart the Mac. After restart, they work for a while, but suddenly go silent, usually after I have "paused" the sound with the spacebar.

I could find no useful guidance in the Support materials for "Audio MIDI Setup."

Yes, I checked the cable connections several times. They're fine.

Hi Zardon,

As your USB speakers don't stay connected to your Mac, you can try the steps under "If you’re trying to listen through external speakers" in If you can’t hear sound from your Mac speakers.

Also, check out troubleshooting steps from the speaker manufacturer in Computer does not detect a Bose product connected via USB and you can use this link for Bose Product Support.

Hope this helps.

Have a good day.
