Classical app?

When Apple bought (and cancelled) the excellent classical music service PrimePhonic, subscribers were offered a few months of Apple Music for free, with promise that a dedicated classical service would appear based on PrimePhonic. Months later, I'm asked to start paying for Apple Music, but no classical app has shown up. There is of course some classical music available on Apple Music as it is, but it's painful to search for, and nowhere near what PrimePhonic provided. Apple Music is oriented toward people with rather different musical tastes than mine, and I wonder if they will ever keep their promise to provide a useful service for classical music listeners. For now, I've just canceled the (formerly free) subscription to Apple Music, though I might restart it if they provided something good. Idagio is a very nice alternative, though I really liked the PrimePhonic interface and catalog.

Of course this sort of problem has always arisen since the dawn of PCs and music library software. Even well designed software has always been a mess when it came to consolidated indexed libraries of classical music, spoken word etc. If it doesn’t fit in with the idea of “artist” and “album” it rarely works and as for having to listen to music from “Parsifal” played in random order …..

Sorry, they bought and killed PrimePhonic some time ago, and announced (to those of us whose subscriptions to that service were thereby shut off) that they’d have a replacement before our “free trial” of Apple Music expired. I see no evidence they have acted on this in good faith. Thank goodness for IDAGIO … I know classical music listeners are a small minority, but neither Apple nor Sirius XM (another painful story) seem to realize that population is better prepared to pay for their music than most other segments.
