I am curious. Since my MacBook Pro heats up when charging, but the temp sensors show 8 different "Power Manager Dies", does this mean that the battery has 8 cells, interlinked? If so, does it top them off one at a time, until full?

Yes when you are charging it is not uncommon for it to heat up, there are more than one single variable here.

The rule of thumb— "if you are near the mains leave it plugged in, if you need the portability then run on battery only."
The built in BHM will manage the battery charging for you—this is not an issue.
