How to include footnotes when sending a word-document with e-mail?

I have tried to send a word-document with footnotes from a mini iPad (fifth generation, 2021) via e-mail, but the footnotes are not included when the document is received.

What could I do to make this work, or is it impossible for a mini iPad?

There may also be some additional things to take in to consideration such as the device and app the recipient is using.
