Google Drive in Files sidebar not working correctly in iOS 15 (all versions, including the latest 15.5)

This used to work in iOS 13 and 14, but now in iOS 15 it keeps asking for Authentication and provides a link to sign-in to Google Drive. I’m logged into the Google Drive app already AND logged in to Google Drive in a Safari web page. When I follow the link it simply opens the Google Drive app and the Authentication message remains on-screen in the right-side of the Files app, where Folders and Files are normally displayed.

What gives? Are new iOS 15 Security and/or Privacy features interfering here?

NOTE: I tried to include a screen shot of what the Files app is showing and received a file insertion error from this message.

SOLUTION:

  1. Open the Google Drive app.
  2. Tap on the 3 stacked bars on the left to open the menu and select, Settings.
  3. Under Settings, select Privacy Screen and turn that setting off. Here’s the description for that setting.

“When Privacy Screen is enabled, access to this app will be restricted by Touch ID.”

Turning that off Google Drive now opens properly within the iPad’s Files app.

Hope this helps others with a similar problem.

I’m not at all sure what it is that you are seeing. Having just tested the Google Drive App - and Google Drive integration from the native Files App - I’m not seeing any unusual behaviour or authentication issues; both are performing normally under iPadOS 15.5.

Without seeing the problem, or being able to recreate the issue, the best advice that I can offer is that you delete the Google Drive App from your iPad - and then force-restart the iPad prior to reinstalling the Google Drive App.
