not getting some text message notifications

Over the past week or so I'm apparently randomly not getting sound notifications for text messages. I'll start a text conversation with someone and then won't get sound notifications of their replies. Or I'll get a sound notification of the first text from someone and then not get sound notification of 2nd and 3rd texts from same person. I have scheduled summary set up with immediate delivery. iPhone XR, running iOS15.4.1
