Deleting my iPhone backup,

When I go to delete my iPhones Backup, Turn Off & Delete, I get an error message saying Cannot Delete Backup. This backup can not be deleted at this time. Why do i get this? I is taking up 4 GB of my data. I tried doing the same in the icloud app but the same thing happens. Pleasew help...
