Update can’t verify because it says I’m no longer connected to the internet every time I attempt to install the new update
but I actually am connected to the internet. Why is this happening?

You need to be connected to a cellular network to activate the phone. That message is a little misleading, as it doesn’t make it clear that it needs an Internet connection through the cellular carrier.
