Stand hours?

So what does - Stand - really mean. I can stand for 45 minutes at church, but it doesn't mean I'm standing. I have a watch and an iphone.

Stand must mean I have to charismatically standing? I wind up waving my arms around and even throwing my phone up in the air while I'm standing, but I guess that's not enough. I see Apple information about moving around, but that's not true either. Even moving around 50 feet - I guess at the wrong time during the hour they supposedly monitor.

iPhone 8, iOS 15

First, standing has nothing t do with your iPhone. It is completely controlled by the watch.

To get credit for a "stand" you must continually move for about one minute during any part of that hour. I have found that the most important thing is not so much to actually stand, but to constantly move your wrist wearing the watch during that minute.

As you have found out, standing perfectly (or nearly) still will not give you any credit toward your stand goal. Conversely, you can be sitting as long as you swing your wrist for a minute or so and you will get credit for the "stand" during that hour.

Hope that helps. That is just my personal experience.

I appreciate your response. I'll add that to the other suggestions in trying to trick my watch (understand that iphone doesn't monitor "stand") into what "Stand" really means. I wave my arms, i toss my phone in the air and catch it (split end in high school 😜) I do this for many minutes in an hour while I'm standing. What apple calls STAND ..;doesn't have much to do with actually STANDING. As a matter of fact, if i've left my phone stationary on a desk or table, and walk around, I also don't get STAND credit.

So in Apple vernacular. "STAND" would be better defined as (Don't) Move (as much) as MOVE I understand that Apple engineers and code writers have a somewhat difficult task with imbedded sensors like accelerometers and the ones that are used for stairs for example. I guess I'm old fashioned in thinking that Stand(ing) really means just that. Not in Apple world I guess. I just wonder why they have Stand as part of the health app at all. I guess I'm putting too much stock in what the term actually means. I also tend to agree with sitting-being-the-new-smoking - in terms of health risk. Just my opinion (???)

Re Series 7, I had it a few days. I did NOT wear the watch to bed. It was charging all night. I got up after 8 AM. At 10 AM, my watch said I was standing 4 hours. Completely wrong! Even IF it recorded stand time in hours 8, 9 and 10, it should only be reporting 3 hours. Bottom line, I had only been standing about 1 1/2 hours. This is a useless feature. Very disappointing.

I agree that STAND isn't a term that applies. "Standing" - as opposed to being seated too much of the day, is definitely a health risk. Maybe someday Apple will either modify the term to something else that reflects what STAND means to most people, or they'll figure out a formula combined with their integrated sensors to achieve a worthy health goal.

STAND in apple world doesn't give me a STAND hour credit (Even when I stand - not seated in chair - in place (wave my arms, toss my phone simultaneously at times) for 20 minutes straight.

Could be your experience is insightful!!!!! Maybe it means having your watch on a night STAND!!!! 😜
